Dandelion Art Gallery & Studios, NFP, Inc. and its an affiliates encourages our local community to participate in our annual Scarecrow Contest beginning now through Oct 11th. These creative Scarecrows will be displayed at Dandelion Gallery & Studio (inside and outside the gallery). Contestants will be highlighted for their originality, and creativity in making their scarecrow out of 85% recycled materials.

 

Judgement will take place October 20th during ArtWauk (5-7pm) and voted "Best Scarecrow" by the community. Community Choice Winners will be acknowledged and given a cash prize (50% of proceeds raised) and tickets to a Three Brothers Theater Performance. Artists or their spokesperson will have the opportunity to share their scarecrow creation.

 

All contestants are welcome to participate and may also sponsor an Artist to create their scarecrow on behalf of a business, organization, family or cause. Although this contest is free, donations may be made to create money prizes!  Scarecrows may be sold (50%/50% to support the artist and or mission). 

 

Artist Eligibility:  Any artist living in Lake, McHenry and Kenosha County

Artwork Eligibility: Original artwork only. Must be made of 85% Recycle Items and ready to displayed (with necessary hardware).

Important dates of entry and celebration:

• Entry Deadline: Oct 11th, 2025 by 6pm. 

• Display Setup: Oct 18th 5-7pm.  A responsible party is responsible for the handling, displaying, and hanging of the artwork and artwork tag(s) ( Name of artwork, medium, size, short description of the artwork). Tags of the artwork must be typed out and printed (on business card size tags). 

• ArtWauk: Oct 20th, 2024 during 5-9pm

 Contest Rules:

1. Entries may submit up to 1 scarecrow to be considered. A single piece of art will be selected for each participant/organization.   Artwork must fit the theme and meet the criteria. Artwork that may not be selected to be exhibited may be selected for other community exhibitions that are conducive to the theme. 

2. All artwork must be original and created by the entry artist organization (with artist acknowledgement). All artwork must have a completed entry tag secured to the upper right corner of its reverse side and must include the exhibitor’s name, short artist statement, title of entry, price or NFS (not for sale) listing, and media type. Artists receive a 50% in commission sales. 50% goes towards supporting the gallery. 

3.  May support a short 3 min artist bio and information on work to may be used for marketing and shared with the community. 

4. Artwork should not contain anything explicit or harmful. 

5. Artwork must not contain any inappropriate content or symbolism. Dandelion Art Gallery & Studios, NFP, Inc, reserves the right to exclude an entry if it is not acceptable as determined by Dandelion Art Gallery & Studios, NFP, Inc.

6. The entry deadline is Saturday Oct 11th 6pm

7. Community Choice Award - Voted by the community. 

8. Entrees are able to share who they are, and their experience 5:30 -6:30pm

9. Winners will be announced on Oct 20th between 8-9pm (based on min voting requirements). ​

Publicity: Please check here to grant permission to use submitted work for promotion. If this is not checked, marketing will be limited.

Not all entries will publicized online on various social platforms and website; Dandelion Art Gallery & Studios, NFP, Inc, will exercise sole discretion in determining which artworks to exhibit.
