Abstractions of Mental Health
A Community Exhibition
Showcase Event
Saturday, September 19, 2026 | 5:00–9:00 PM
During ArtWauk | Free & Open to the Public

What does mental health look like when words are not enough to describe what we carry within?
Dandelion Gallery & Studios invites you to experience Abstractions of Mental Health, a community exhibition exploring mental and emotional well-being through art, creative expression, and the individual stories that exist beneath the surface.

Our mental and emotional experiences are not always easily defined, explained, or seen. They are layered, complex, fragmented, evolving, and deeply personal. Like abstract art, mental health does not follow a single form, path, or story—and what is visible on the surface may reveal only a small part of what exists within.
Through color, texture, patterns, symbols, imagery, and creative expression, artists give form to emotions and experiences that words may not fully capture. Colors can hold emotion. Patterns can reflect repetition, thought, or behavior. Symbols can carry deeply personal meaning. The boundaries between colors, shapes, and elements can represent the boundaries we create to protect ourselves, the barriers we encounter, and the spaces we learn to navigate as we cope, heal, and grow.

Where colors collide, overlap, blend, separate, or break through those boundaries, they can reveal something equally powerful—the tension between struggle and resilience, isolation and connection, vulnerability and strength, darkness and hope.

Featuring artwork by community members and artists, including works created through Dandelion’s creative wellness experiences, the exhibition brings individual expressions together to create a larger community conversation about mental health.

Each abstraction becomes more than an image. It becomes a visual language for what is often unseen—a reminder that behind every person is an inner experience we may never fully know, but can choose to acknowledge, honor, and better understand.

Experience the Showcase Event
During the Opening Reception & Community Showcase, explore the exhibition, connect with participating artists and community members, enjoy complimentary refreshments and light snacks, and experience an evening centered around creativity, reflection, connection, and community.
Guests are also invited to become part of the exhibition experience through interactive opportunities inspired by its themes:

Community Canvas
Leave your mark on a collaborative work of art created throughout the evening. Through colors, words, marks, patterns, and imagery, each participant will contribute an individual expression to a larger collective piece—demonstrating how many different experiences can exist together within one shared space.

Creative Wellness Art Experience
Pause, reflect, and create through a hands-on activity exploring emotions, boundaries, resilience, and hope. Participants will use visual elements such as color, lines, shapes, and patterns to express something that may be difficult to communicate through words. No artistic experience is necessary—this experience is about expression, not perfection.
